SERVICES

Sensory UK offers highly specialist Occupational Therapy and Sensory Integration services for children, adolescents and adults. In addition to having expertise in sensory integration and occupational therapy, we offer expert knowledge and support for those on the Autistic Spectrum, having both professional and lived experience.

We accept referrals from parents, schools, local authorities, case managers, solicitors and also to those who self-refer.
We offer a courtesy 20- minute initial consultation to discuss the client’s challenges and to determine if an assessment would be beneficial.

Assessment and report for children, adolescents and adults
We embrace a person centred, holistic approach when conducting our assessments, designing strategies and writing our reports. This delivery of care considers the individual’s physical, mental, and emotional strengths and challenges, whilst also examining the many external environmental factors which may affect their ability to participate in activities of daily living.

It is necessary to unpick the behaviour that prevents full participation and consider their sensory challenges from various angles using a ‘bottom up approach’. A bottom up approach addresses all aspects of an individual’s presentation that may affect their sensory integration abilities  (i.e., trauma, mental health impairments, developmental delays, anxiety, coordination and motor difficulties, etc ). This approach aims to identify a baseline of need ensuring bespoke interventions are designed.

All clients will be sent a developmental questionnaire and one or more sensory assessments. However, as discussed above, sensory processing impairments can present with underlying co-morbid features making it necessary to assess conditions which may exist simultaneously.

Where applicable, additional assessments such as an anxiety schedule, trauma/attachment, executive functioning, and an independent living skills inventory will be also be considered. (Note, this is not an exhaustive list.)

We are family-focused and consider the family unit as part of the therapeutic process. All assessments are bespoke to the individual with targets devised to be client-centred and motivating. As each person is unique, the assessments will vary from client to client

A thorough OT/ SI assessment is a necessary, comprehensive evaluation that is designed to identify areas that inhibit the individual from engagement.

Reports provide evidence of need for Tribunals, Local Authority, PIP/DLA, Statutory Assessment of Special Educational Needs (EHCP) Health Providers etc and are legally binding.

Who we work with

Children and Young People
When children and young people struggle to regulate their central nervous system, behavioural challenges may arise. Without the ability to recognize their over-reactivity or under-reactivity to sensory input, the child will not be equipped to mitigate their reactions to the sensory bombardment of everyday life.
Children who have difficulty processing sensory information may present with a variety of behaviours in different areas; for example, they may find teeth brushing and hair washing upsetting, may always be ‘on the go’ and fidgety.
Sensory processing difficulties can be complex and affect a huge variety of day to day activities. To fully assess your child’s needs a detailed sensory assessment would need to be completed.

Adults
Sensory UK offers services to adults of all ages.  As more adults are now being diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and sensory processing challenges later in life, we create bespoke interventions that can be applied in the home, community and work environment.  Suggestions for adaptations in the workplace can significantly affect one’s ability to be more focused, productive and inclusive.

Mental Health challenges for children, young people and adults
Sensory UK also offers assessments  adults with mental health challenges; in residential homes, educational environments, the work place or in a hospital setting. Occupational Therapy assessments are also available to increase independence and participation and to assist with activities of daily living.
